Don't take that abuse from him

The 20th century and 21st century are noted for many significant women's movements. There are various actions taken against the abuse of women, domestic violence, sexual assault, character assassination of the women etc. However the shocking news is that one in five British adults reckon it is all right if a man physically abuses his wife or girlfriend.

The above said men justify their stand by stating that their woman has to be beaten up if she wears sexy clothes in the public. They also believe that a woman's character should be moulded only out of beating and that will keep her away from nagging or moaning. They also think that their woman deserves a good thrashing if she flirts with another man.

These male chauvinistic men further believe that a woman is also at fault in the case of a rape. Surprisingly some women also support this point of view. This group also believes that a woman should be blamed if she gets drunk and wears sexy clothes.

The figures that have emerged in a Government survey on domestic violence shocked Home Secretary Jacqui Smith. She is effectively launching a groundbreaking crusade to stop violence against women.

In Jacqui Smith's supervision, the police will set up a register of abusive partners. They will also warn women who start dating thugs with a history of violence. GPs will be asked to do more to spot signs of domestic violence when they see women patients. Schools are also coming to front to teach pupils about the problem.

"Violence against women and girls is unacceptable. We've already made real progress, with domestic incidents more than halving in the past 12 years. But I want to start a national debate on what more we can do," Jacqui Smith said.
